2b. சுந்தரருக்குத் தண்டனை

சென்றார் மலர்கள் கொய்திட சுந்தரர் நந்தவனம்;
சென்றாள் மாலினி அநிந்திதையுடன் அதே வனம்.

கண்டனர் பெண்டிர் மன்மத விக்கிரஹ சுந்தரரை;
கொண்டனர் ஆறாக்காதலும், மயக்கமும் உடனே.

கண்டார் சுந்தரரும் அவ்விரு அழகிய பெண்களை;
கொண்டார் அவரும் அவர்கள் மீது தீராத விருப்பம்.

சென்று விட்டனர் பெண்கள் மிகுந்த ஏக்கத்துடன்;
சுந்தரர் உணர்ந்தார் தான் இழைத்த பிழையை!

தண்டனிட்டார்; மனம் வருந்தினார்; அஞ்சினார்;
தண்டனை என்னவோ தான் செய்த பிழைக்கு என.

தொடுத்த மாலைகளைச் சமர்ப்பித்தார் ஈசனுக்கு;
அடுத்தது காட்டும் பளிங்கு ஆனது சுந்தரர் முகம்!

அறிந்தான் ஈசன் நந்தவனத்தில் நடந்தவற்றை;
“சிறு தண்டனை ஒன்று உண்டு அந்தப் பிழைக்கு;

மனம் நாடிச் சென்றது இரு மாதர்களை சுந்தரா!
மனம் போல் வாழ்வாய் அவ்விரு பெண்களுடன்!

காமனை எரித்த கயிலையில் அது அசம்பவம் – உன்
காமம் கைக்கு கூடும் நீ பூவுலகம் சென்று விட்டால்!

பிறப்பாய் பாரத கண்டத்தில் தெற்குகே கோடியில்;
சிறப்பாய் வாழ்ந்த பின்பு சேர்வாய் என்னிடம்!” என

வருந்தினார் சுந்தரர் ஈசன் மொழியைக் கேட்டு-“தக்க
தருணத்தில் தடுத்தாட்கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்னை!”

தென் திசையில் அவதாரம் செய்தார் சுந்தரர்.
இன்பம் துய்த்தார் இரு காதல் மாதர்களுடன்.

திரும்பி வருகின்றார் கயிலை, ஈசன் சேவை செய்திட;
விரும்பிய வாழ்வை அடைந்து மகிழ்ந்த பின்னர்!” என

அத்திசை நோக்கித் தொழுதனர் முனிவர் அனைவரும்;
வினவினர் “தென்திசையின் சிறப்புக்கள் யாவை?” என

“தென்திசையில் அமைந்துள்ளன சீரிய சிவத் தலங்கள்
ஒன்று ஈசன் நடனம் ஆடும் தில்லை என்னும் சிதம்பரம்;

தியாகேசனாக எழுந்தருளியுள்ள திருவாரூர் மற்றொன்று;
திருநகரம் காஞ்சியும் அமைந்துள்ளது தெற்குத் திசையில்.

திருவையாறு, சீர்காழி இன்னும் பலத் திருத்தலங்கள்
இருப்பது தென் திசையில், பரத கண்டத்தில் அறிவீர்!

திருத்தொண்டர்த்தொகை என்னும் புராணத்தைத்
திருவாரூர் தியாகேசனுக்குச் சூட்டினார் சுந்தரர்.

வகைப் படுத்தினார் இதை நம்பியாண்டார் நம்பி;
வகைப் படுத்திய வழிமுறையும் மிக உயர்வானது”.

#2b. Sundara gets punished

Sundara went to the garden to pluck fresh flowers. At the same time, MAlini and AnindhithA, two attendants of Devi Uma, also went to the same garden to pluck flowers. They fell head over heels in love with Sundara – the most beautiful person they have set their eyes on.

Sundara himself fell in love with those beautiful women. They had to go their own ways after plucking the flowers. But Sundara felt he had committed a sin by falling in love with those lovely ladies. He wondered what would be the punishment for his sin.

He presented the garlands made by him to Siva as usual. But by his appearance and facial expression Siva knew what had happened in the garden. He spoke to Sundara thus:

“You have fallen in love with two women. You may live with them happily but it can’t happen here in Kailash, where I have burned to ash the God of Love Manmathan.

You may be born as a human being in the southern region of Bharatha kaNda. Enjoy all the pleasures with those women you love. You may come back to me after that.”

Sundara felt very sad at the thought of separation from Siva. But he had no choice. He made one request to Siva,”Please stop me from entering the shackles of samsara at the right moment so that I will be able to come back to you”

Sunadara was born in the Southern region of Bharatha kaNda, lived his life on earth and is now returning to Siva.”

On hearing these words of sage Upamanyu, all the other seers and sages paid obeisance to that glow of light. They had one more doubt now.”What are the specialties of the Southern region of Bharatha kaNda?’

Sage Upamanyu replied,”Many of the kshetrams special to Siva are situated in the Southern region of Bharatha kaNda. Thillai aka as Chidhambaram, ThiruvAroor, KAnchipuram, ThiruvaiyAru, SeerkAzhi to name a few.

Sundara sang the Thiruth ThoNdar Thogai and offered it to ThyAgEsan in ThiruvAroor. NambiyANdAr Nambi classified and organized them in a very superior manner.”
